Heya Guys 'n' Gals,
the past week was tense for me. I got as far for a new kool job as I never did before. Well, I got jobs before but this one would be the first step in the right direction for me. Not just some job to make money I need, some necessary evil so to speak. No this was a real Job at a Game Company. It just started up but it felt like the right one for me. A week ago I got to have a phone interview with the CEO and I feel like it went pretty good. I had to wait a week for a decision, tho. They needed to interview some more people. Eventually, they decided to take someone else, unfortunately. On the one hand, it is obviously a bummer that I didn’t get the gig, but on the other hand that I got so far proves that I improved my skills and my portfolio to make a good impression. I’m very optimistic that I finally can get further and eventually get the job I want. I just need that one more step up.
So my suspicion that I wasn’t the guy they wanted has something to do with the fact that they looked for an all-round artist. Someone who can do 2D as well as 3D, someone who can animate and design characters and environment. They probably found someone who can do all those things already instead of me who is able to learn these things pretty quick.
I decided to make more effort to learn these things now. I already started learning the program Blender to make myself more accustomed to 3D. My issue with learning new programs is that I need a reason to learn those. For example, I learned Illustrator my job two years ago. I started blender because I want to make basic Environment setups for my comic to use those as simple background bases, which I can adapt in the right perspective I need.
The next thing I want to learn is animation, but for now, I don’t have the right reason to animate something, except for improving myself. All in all, it is time spend for something I probably not able or comfortable to show off. At least the first things I’ll create with those programs. But ultimately I have a wider set of Skills to create something new. I’m excited for the day I have the skill to 3D model, animate and maybe even sound design some stuff.
Abesome Life Update
I like to make a Top 3 for the Comic Book Abesome Life Vol. 1. For this I need YOU!
Just visit the following 3 web pages and like your Top 3 from the pages “Abesome” to “Weddingday”:
And of course, share this and you’re Top 3 to bring them to the Top! The winning Pages will be colored by the way. When This is done The book is going to be published as Digital and/or Print. I’m way excited to publish this and being so close to doing so. I published some comic before, but those were only short chapters and tests to feel out how to do it. Today I’m not as proud of those few printed pages as I was, but Abesome Life Vol. 1 is my Baby. I started the first pages way back and restarted and revamped the series anew with the beginning of this year. A whole Year I’m uploading pages non-stop, or more like I upload them as planned. And I’m very proud! The Comic evolved quite a bit and I even was able to make an entire universe out of it. When I originally started Abesome Life I didn’t really know what I’m doing. I just drew some stories that happened to me and my inspiration was limited. Starting this year I have pages planned for probably 2 more years going and I have ideas coming like the mail.
Also, the Character roster is growing and I finally found a way to force myself to make the final designs. It is called Inktober and here is the second batch of Character inks:
We’re up to 6 Characters and next week the last 3 will join the ranks and we have our current complete main Cast of Abesome Life. After that, we have one more week left for additional Inks. Stay curious for those, friends. :)
